General information
Organisation
The French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (CEA) is a key player in research, development and innovation in four main areas :
• defence and security,
• nuclear energy (fission and fusion),
• technological research for industry,
• fundamental research in the physical sciences and life sciences.
Drawing on its widely acknowledged expertise, and thanks to its 16000 technicians, engineers, researchers and staff, the CEA actively participates in collaborative projects with a large number of academic and industrial partners.
The CEA is established in ten centers spread throughout France

Job description
In Marion's modeling laboratory, a team of some fifty researchers-engineers is working to predict the operation and degradation of Li-ion batteries. Our team uses an innovative approach based on modeling at all scales, from the atomic scale to the integration of batteries in operational systems. The CEA's diversified scientific environment enables us to benefit of detailed experimental characterizations (nano-tomography, X-ray spectroscopy, etc.) carried out by our partner laboratories, including the European synchrotron.
In order to understand the mechanical properties of batteries, and more specifically their impact on ageing, our team is currently developing 3D HPC simulation of the electrode microstructure. You will be in charge of performing these simulations and investigate the possible degradation mechanisms.
· Propose and simulate a mechanical model of the microstructure of porous battery electrodes.
· Initiate collaborations with researchers working on the experimental characterization of electrodes, inside and outside the CEA.
· Join the BATMAN national PEPR expert group
Communicate your results at international conferences and publish them
Applicant Profile
What you bring to the table
. Your PhD in chemistry or physics
· Skills in numerical simulation and programming
· A first experience with a mechanical simulation tool such as Abaqus would be appreciated
You enjoy team working, take initiatives and be autonomous
What you can expect
In the heart of the Alps, an exceptional and internationally recognised scientific ecosystem, in a city committed to the environmental transition "Grenoble European Green Capital 2022",
