General information
Organisation
The French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (CEA) is a key player in research, development and innovation in four main areas :
• defence and security,
• nuclear energy (fission and fusion),
• technological research for industry,
• fundamental research in the physical sciences and life sciences.
Drawing on its widely acknowledged expertise, and thanks to its 16000 technicians, engineers, researchers and staff, the CEA actively participates in collaborative projects with a large number of academic and industrial partners.
The CEA is established in ten centers spread throughout France

Job description
CIVA software (https://www.extende.com/civa-in-a-few-words) developed by CEA-List is the reference software in the field of non-destructive testing and in particular for ultrasonic inspection. Used, for example, to help design welding inspection processes in the energy sector, the success of CIVA is partly due to the implementation of semi-analytical methods such as ray tracing. These methods are very fast and allow refined parametric studies to be carried out on a standard PC. They remain difficult to qualify beyond a theoretical validity perimeter but the latter can be somewhat exceeded on an industrial configuration without perturbing the targeted simulated data, as demonstrated over the years by numerous experimental validations performed on established reference cases.
In order to further strengthen confidence in the simulation, CEA-List now wishes to provide CIVA with analysis tools that allow it to carry out a self-diagnosis a posteriori, eventually a priori, of the inspection calculation.
To this end, you will :
· Establish unit evaluation criteria based on the physical model.
· Implement the associated markers and their extraction at the end of the calculation.
· Propose an analysis of these results on a large panel of reference configurations.
· Develop a visualization interface as a simulation report.
· Evaluate a trusted AI based on reasoning to extract business rules.
· Enrich and automate the software assistance upstream of the calculation (numerical settings, etc.).
The mission consists of carrying out these actions alongside the teams: the modelling laboratory (host laboratory) for the introduction of criteria into the code and the analysis of the results, the software laboratory for the extraction of data, the artificial intelligence laboratory for the evaluation of the trusted AI software ExpressIf (https://expressif.cea.fr/).
