Postdoc design and modeling of a very high temperature heat pump H/F

Vacancy details

General information

Organisation

The French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (CEA) is a key player in research, development and innovation in four main areas :
• defence and security,
• nuclear energy (fission and fusion),
• technological research for industry,
• fundamental research in the physical sciences and life sciences.

Drawing on its widely acknowledged expertise, and thanks to its 16000 technicians, engineers, researchers and staff, the CEA actively participates in collaborative projects with a large number of academic and industrial partners.

The CEA is established in ten centers spread throughout France

Job description

Activities :

You will be involved in the part related to the development of the very high temperature heat-pump.

Such development also corresponds to industrial and societal expectations of decarbonization. In more detail, your missions will correspond to:

- Design of the heat pump concept in line with the other subsystems

- 1st and 2nd principle modeling of the heat pump

- Monitoring the creation of the heat pump demonstrator

- Experimental validation of heat pump performances

- Definition of actions to be carried out for the transition to scale 1

- Coupling of the heat pump demonstrator with thermal storage

Internal training will help you to be successful in these different tasks and to strengthen your skills or acquire new ones.

A particular effort on scientific publications and communications (international conferences) is requested. You will be trained in patent filing and patents will naturally be encouraged.

Our team :

- Our team of about 15 persons (researchers, engineers, technicians, students) is working on thermodynamic cycles (Organic Rankine Cycle, heat-pump…), thermal storages and definition of energetic solutions for industrial processes. We are working with European universities and international companies.

- Industrial-grade facilities for thermodynamic cycle and thermal storage for research

- See recent publication from our last Ph. D. Guillaume Lhermet : https://www.mdpi.com/1996-1073/15/20/7559

Applicant Profile

Skills :

- Solid knowledge in thermal transfers, fluidics, thermal and thermodynamic systems

- Thermodynamic modelling (heat pumps would be an advantage)

- Appreciated: prototyping and experimentation to conduct tests and analysis.

Conditions :

- Salary according to your qualifications and experience (>40 k€/year gross)

 - Teleworking possible (up to 2 days/week)

What we offer:

- In the heart of the Alps, an exceptional and internationally recognised scientific ecosystem, in a city committed to the environmental transition "Grenoble European Green Capital 2022"

- A balance between private and professional life (50 days off/year), an active Works Council for leisure and extra-professional activities.
