General information
Organisation
The French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (CEA) is a key player in research, development and innovation in four main areas :
• defence and security,
• nuclear energy (fission and fusion),
• technological research for industry,
• fundamental research in the physical sciences and life sciences.
Drawing on its widely acknowledged expertise, and thanks to its 16000 technicians, engineers, researchers and staff, the CEA actively participates in collaborative projects with a large number of academic and industrial partners.
The CEA is established in ten centers spread throughout France

Division description
The Microtechnologies for Biology and Health Department at CEA-LETI in Grenoble is proposing a post-doctorate or fixed term contract to develop an optical microscopy system and associated algorithms for characterizing organs-on-a-chip in microfluidic devices.
Description de l'unité
In our laboratories, we are working to optimize the conditions for the development of vascularized Organ On Chips (OOCs). The hollow structures that make up the vascular networks, the "lumens", allow functions essential to the growth and correct functioning of these organs. Characterizing these networks is essential for the development of these complex in vitro models. Light-sheet microscopy offers many advantages for imaging living 3D samples, but current commercial systems are not adapted to microfluidic components.
The coupled development of new three-dimensional optical imaging devices and specific 3D image processing tools is essential to further characterize and understand OOCs during their in situ development. We will implement a co-design and co-optimization approach for instrumental and data processing, so as to be able to digitally reconstruct samples in 3D and extract metrics of interest for the morphometric and functional characterization of on-chip vascular networks. We will base our works on the first-generation light-sheet system developed in the laboratory [1,2].
